Everyone has their own story to tell about how the coronavirus has affected their everyday life. When asked to tell my own, I thought I’d explain how me and my parents have been impacted since lockdown began.
As a university student, I was forced to come home early on the 15th March when teaching was suspended due to the pandemic. Being at home full-time however, has offered many challenges to both my university and personal life.
Keeping motivated and focused on work has been my biggest challenge while quarantined. For most as well I expect, things often feel restrictive when there is little chance for a change of scenery. For me, the only real time I've been out of my house is when I take the dogs for a walk.
I asked my friend, who also studies at university, how his education and personal life has changed. He said: “Coronavirus has cancelled all face to face learning and adapted our assessments making them harder for us to do well in. It’s also caused a dispute with the company that runs my halls over rent. We’ve had to adapt how we socialise as well, video calling more than usual, but I do get to ride my bike everyday to try and stay fit.”.
Both of my parents are still working full-time. My Mum, who works in finance, is either at home or in her office answering calls from worried customers. My Dad works in logistics, he is always having to be on conference calls from home, so our dining room has now become his permanent office five days a week.
Regardless of if you’re still working, or are simply just stuck inside bored, it’s guaranteed this is an experience we'll all never ever forget.
