Five Things to Watch While You're Stuck at Home During Quarantine

Updated: May 8, 2020

Nowadays it feels like everything is either going way too slow or far too quickly. Like most, quarantine is something I have never experienced. It’s something I never thought I would experience. But luckily we live in an era where boredom is easily cured by the touch of a button. Here are five things I recommend watching to take your mind off the real world.

Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness

After its release last month on March 20th, this series drew global attention and had people rushing to Netflix to watch it.

The documentary follows the chaotic and controversial life of Joe Exotic, 'The Tiger King' (Pictured). His seemingly endless quest for fame brings trouble for him and the 200 plus exotic animals he owns.

This eight part documentary series follows the eccentric life of Joe Exotic. If you haven't already seen it, I can guarantee you it's not like anything you've ever seen before. A definite must watch if you’re looking to experience the life of a man unlike any other.

The Witcher

Looking for a series packed full of action? Look no further than Netflixs ‘The Witcher’. The first series based on the popular video game offers a great escape into a gory world where you’re instantly hooked. A great Henry Cavill performance paired with exciting action scenes and the occasional bit of comedy, this series is a fantastic option for fans of the fantasy genre - who also don’t mind the odd bit of blood.

Henry Cavill has said he relentlessly sought after this role when he heard the series was being made, as he is a huge fan of the original video game.

The Lion King (1994)

With the recent launch of Disney plus, I think it’s only right to include one of the all-time classics.

Disney's 1994 'Lion King' has become one of the most popular animated films ever made. Since its release, it has been adapted into a theater play and been re-released in 2019 as a live action film.

The original ‘Lion King’ offers everything, emotion, fun, music - to me it is a perfect film to watch, whether you want to entertain the kids for 90 minutes, or just feel like experiencing a bit of nostalgia, or maybe see the original that inspired the 2019 reboot. You simply can’t go wrong with watching this classic.

Come Fly With Me

David Walliams (Left) and Matt Lucas (Right) both play various characters in this series, following the same style as their previous hit TV show 'Little Britain'.

If you have quarantine blues and need an easy pick me up, this 2010 series starring David Walliams and Matt Lucas will have you laughing all the way through. The comedy of the show would be very risky in today’s market, but the short 30 minute episodes offer an enjoyable break from the constant misery caused by Coronavirus.

Guardians of the Galaxy

One of Disney Plus’ main attractions is its access to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Being a huge fan of the franchise, I feel it’s only right to include one of its films on this list.

Star of the film, Chris Pratt underwent a dramatic physical transformation for the role, but kept the same sense of humor of his other popular character Andy Dwyer, from the popular American show 'Parks and Recreation'.

Guardians of the Galaxy is brilliantly directed by James Gunn, the fun use of music with its perfect mixture of action, comedy and emotion will make you become a Marvel fan instantly. This is much more than a superhero film. I promise you won’t regret watching it.
