2020 will (hopefully) be a good year for Frank Lampard and Chelsea. The English manager and the team will be given a clean slate after his first season in charge at the club as it looks increasingly likely that Liverpool will grab their first ever league title.
This would come after a season of little expectation due to the club’s transfer situation, as well as the number of young players who have been utilized by the former player turned manager. Although the team and its young core has somewhat exceeded expectations already – currently being fourth place in the league with the upcoming legs of the champions league to look forward to, it will be difficult for Lampard not to look forward to 2020 and next season with the transfer ban now being lifted.
He will be able to add players who will benefit the team and add qualities that young inexperienced players haven’t developed yet. As a fan it’s easy to say we need an attacker who will score more goals but that’s something that can’t always be guaranteed – which is evident with the previous number 9’s who came before Tammy Abraham, a list which is seemingly never ending. The inconsistent season has been put down to inexperience - coming back to both players and manager, which is something that can be fixed with patience - historically not Chelsea’s strong suit.
But with all that being said, speaking once again as a passionate fan of many years I hope they give Lampard a chance, as he’s not just another random manager who means nothing to the club or its history.
