Scotland fight back to scrape a much needed point in a 1-1 draw against Israel.

Israel started the game quickly and almost opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Manor Solomon’s shot curled just wide of the Scotland post.

Scotland and Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay nearly had an instant reply in the 9th minute when his header from a corner kick flashed wide of the post.

The highlight of the first half came in the 44th minute from Israel’s Dor Peretz. His long range strike powered through Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall and into the top corner to make it 1-0.

A change of formation at half-time proved vital for Scotland’s comeback as they equalised in the 56th minute, following a counter attack which was completed by Ryan Fraser’s finish into the bottom corner.

Scotland dominated the majority of the second half as Israel found it harder to create chances. Scotland had the clearest opportunity to secure the win in the 79th minute as Mctominay had his unchallenged attempt blocked on its way into the bottom corner.

Goal scorer Ryan Fraser when he reflected on the match said: “We dominated the game and should’ve won in the end.

“Sometimes it doesn’t go the way you plan it to go but I think we showed character.”

Scotland manager Steve Clarke when asked about dropping points to lesser opponents said: “We managed to get something out of the game so we’ll take that as a positive and move on.

“There are no easy games in international football anymore so we have to respect that.”
